“NICOLAS Rothwell’s excellent article on the disastrous results of the government-imposed resale royalty scheme clearly shows that mistakes have been made (“Royalties scheme shines stark light on divided landscape”, 8/8).
Let’s hope a decision is made to abandon the scheme. If not, then at least take notice of the heavily weighted evidence from Australia’s art experts that it is a flop and needs serious changes.
If you wanted to plan an assault on the visual arts in Australia, the two-pronged attack of the introduction of this flawed resale royalty scheme, combined with the destruction of art in super funds could not have done a better job of it.
We all hope for a return to a more robust visual art market. Meanwhile, a little assistance from government would be appreciated.”
