Dave’s Faves for the Bonhams Auction – Nov 21

The Bonhams Auction on 17 November is a sale in two parts: lots 1 to 86 comprise important Australian art, while lots 101 to 181 are dedicated to selected works by Sidney Nolan from the seemingly inexhaustible estate of Lady Nolan.

The total pre-sale estimate for the 166 lots is $1.88 million to $2.69 million, indicating that there will be many opportunities also for collectors on a budget to secure artworks by some of Australia’s best known artists. The offerings range from rare colonial works by Edward Thomson and Eugene von Guerard to a broad selection of Aboriginal paintings and artefacts, including outstanding works by Dorothy Napangardi and Sally Gabori.

There are a couple of rare early works by Fred Williams, and masters like Brett Whiteley, Jeffrey Smart and Hans Heysen contrast with signature large contemporary canvasses by Dale Frank and Tim Maguire.

You can preview the artworks in Melbourne from 4 to 7 November at 1130 High Street, Armadale, and in Sydney, the preview is on from 11 to 16 November at 36-40 Queen Street, Woollahra.

The auction is held on Wednesday, 17 November, 6 pm, at 97-99 Queen Street, Woollahra.

You can view the Australian art via this link, and the works from the estate of Lady Nolan here.
