Dave’s Faves for the Sotheby’s Auction 20 Nov. 2018

Sotheby’s Sydney auction on 20 November starts with a veritable fanfare from the collection of John Symonds, of Aussie Home Loans fame.

Among the 14 artworks are masterpieces by some of Australia’s greatest modern and contemporary artists: Blackman, Boyd (Arthur and David), Brack, Nolan, Olsen and Smart to name a few. This selection was awarded a separate catalogue and contains essays researched by Elizabeth Hastings, the art curator of the Symond Family Office; and they make for most enlightening and fascinating reading.

The following lots 15 to 82 are equally select, with a wonderful John Russell landscape of the South of France gracing the cover. On the back of the splendid exhibition on Australia’s Impressionist at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, this shimmering mediterranean vista deserves to do exceptionally well.

If you can, go and see the artworks at the previews, which are held in both Melbourne and Sydney:

– Melbourne, 7 – 11 November, 14-16 Collins Street, Melbourne

– Sydney, 15 – 20 November, 30 and 34 Queen Street, Woollahra

The auction will be held on Tuesday, 20 November at the Intercontinental Hotel in Sydney.

If you are interested in a particular lot, let us know and we will be delighted to assist you with independent advice, due diligence and pre-purchase reports before the auction, bidding on the night and management of after-sales.
