BACKGROUND:

Famous not only as one of Australia’s leading mid to late 20th century abstract artists, John Coburn is also renowned for creating the Sydney Opera House tapestry curtains. He did also create a unique painting of the Opera House itself in 1984.

VALUATION & OUTCOME:

This stunning painting with his abstract forms portraying the famous sails under a typical Sydney blue sky carried estimates of $25,000-$35,000. It sold for double that for $50,000 incl. buyer’s premium, making for a very happy seller and happy buyer alike.
